Senior Project Engineer based in Dublin

What did you want to do when you were 16?

I wanted to play professional cricket when I was 16. And I also wanted to work in the renewable industry in some form. I always wanted to tackle complicated problems and tasks and find solutions to improve everyday life. I was good at planning, communication and execution of tasks so I chose engineering to achieve my goals. And I am still playing cricket representing Leinster Cricket Club.

What kind of qualifications do you need for your job?

I have an MSc in Energy Management and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Power. I got my bachelor’s degree from Sarhad University Peshawar, Pakistan and completed my Masters at Technology University Dublin.

What kind of career opportunities do you have?

I started with AFRY (Ionic Consulting Ltd then) as a graduate Project Engineer in 2018. I was promoted to project engineer in 2019 and now recently promoted to Senior project Engineer. My next step will be towards a Project Manager. There are lots of opportunities in wind energy at the moment.

Best part of your working day?

Every day is a school day, you get to work with lots of different professions onsite and different engineers. I genuinely learn something new all the time, building up my skills.

Something that might surprise people about your role?

I am working as a senior project engineer on both wind farm and solar farm developments across Ireland and Europe and . This means I get to see all phases of the project. I see the electrical, civil, legal aspects, so I am not just limited to one part of it. There is great variety.
